Literature Text

in the somnambulist's mind
         a quiet hunger stirs

visions flying through unkempt lives
a kaleidoscope of souls
through the clinking metal gates
to pace the streets of san antonio

clutched tight in his knobby
                            little
                            hands
an armadillo holds all the keys

'careful where you step, zee.
those tangerines are apt to bite,'
he says with a facetious smile.
'it's really not so bad
once you get used to the decay.'

in the quiet hunger of dawn
a somnambulist stirs.
1. Write down a list of words based on these prompts (below).
2. Draft a 12-line poem with each line containing one of these words.
3. Revise

:bulletblack: a noise you particularly love/hate clinking metal
:bulletblack: the name of a real, specific place san antonio
:bulletblack: an unusual colour tangerine
:bulletblack: a smell that disgusted you in the last month decay
:bulletblack: a verb, preferably one describing a physical action flying
:bulletblack: *wild card* - any word somnambulist
:bulletblack: a word that makes you smile facetious
:bulletblack: a body part (it could be sexual, but non-sexual is better) hands
:bulletblack: a piece of furniture or other object kaleidoscope
:bulletblack: a person's name - fictional is better zee (not zed)

Meant to revise this for Friday and/or end of year portfolio so any comments, etc. appreciated.

fucking love this. why didn't i read it earlier?

i'm not sure why i like this so much. it seems that with such a prompt it should be rigid or difficult or confused but it isn't. it seems to have just come from simple inspiration, and that certainly is an appealing aspect - the fact it doesn't seem to have been forced. it's lovely and fluid and elegant and bright and beautiful.
